Replacing stamped paper checklists in an electronics factory
A UK electronics manufacturer tracked production on stamped paper checklists. No job status, no history, no photos. We replaced it with a system covering six departments — with a full audit trail and photo evidence at every stage.

The problem
Production was tracked on physical checklists, stamped as each stage was completed. Once a sheet moved on with the job, nobody elsewhere in the building could see where anything was.
There was no way to check job status without walking to the department and asking. Supervisors spent a significant part of the day doing exactly that — across every department, for every job in progress.
Months later, there was no reliable trace of who did what. A stamp confirms a stage happened; it does not reliably tell you who performed it, when, or what they found.
No photographs were taken of the product at any stage. When a question came back about how a board looked at inspection, or what changed between one revision and the next, there was nothing to compare against — only memory.
What we built
- A web-based system covering the full production lifecycle across six departments — kit room, SMT, PTH, inspection, test and dispatch.
- Digital checklists replacing the stamped sheets, with each entry recorded against a named user and a timestamp automatically rather than by hand.
- Photo upload at inspection points, attached to the job itself rather than living on someone's phone, so the visual history stays with the record.
- Live shop-floor boards on wall displays, auto-refreshing, so job status is visible from across the room without opening anything or asking anyone.
- Role-based access for manager, supervisor and technician, so sign-offs can only be made by people authorised to make them.
- A full audit trail where corrections are recorded as corrections rather than overwriting the original entry.
What changed
- Job status across every department is visible on the shop floor without anyone walking over to ask.
- Every stage is now attributable — who performed it, when, and what the result was — rather than an anonymous stamp.
- Photographic history is retained against each job, so comparisons between stages and between revisions are possible months after the fact.
- Historical jobs can be looked up directly instead of searching through filed paperwork.
